From Humble Beginnings

So, we created this blog, first and foremost, because we are in Journalism 300. In this class, we learn how to write news stories. One of our assignments is to create a blog in which to post our stories.

The first tab is where everything will posted, for example, this little tidbit of a post. Every story we do will be on the home page and will be tagged so that if you like one story and want to read similar things, you can.

The second tab is about us. If you are curious about who we are, what we do, etc., you can find that there.

The third contains this post. TA DA!

The fourth tab is something that is near and dear to our hearts, RSO sports. Both of us are on clubs: Lauren is on the UMass fencing club team, and Shelby is on the Western Riding Team. Both of these sports are clubs, therefore they are not as well known or covered as we would like them to be. That is not to say that the sports section is not doing a good job covering the sports that they are covering. We just feel that it would be nice if club teams would get recognition next to the varsity teams that are covered in the Collegian.

The fifth tab is where our assignments from class will go. So assignments like deadline pieces, profiles, etc. will be there for convenience.

Meet the Bloggers

Hello Readers,

This is Lauren McArdle and Shelby Ashline, and we are the authors of this blog.

Lauren McArdle:
I am a comparative literature and journalism double major with minor in education. I hope to be a high school English teacher when I get out of college and possibly free lance during the summers. I also want to write a book if possible. I am a part of the UMass fencing club on campus. I am also a correspondent for the sports section of the Massachusetts Daily Collegian. I come from Fairfield, CT. I have a younger brother, Steven, who is a senior and is an awesome musician.

Shelby Ashline:
I'm in the BDIC program at UMass Amherst, which essentially means I am creating my own, unique major by combining several: journalism, communications, and equine management.  After graduating, I would like to work for a magazine or newspaper that focuses on horses, such as Horse and Rider, Horse Illustrated, the Daily Racing Form or Young Rider.  I'm currently a part of the Western Riding Team, which rides weekly at the Hadley Farm, and I'm a staff writer for the news section of the Massachusetts Daily Collegian.  I'm from St. Albans, Vermont, a small town in the middle of nowhere, and I'm an only child.

Thanks for reading!!

From,
Shelby and Lauren
